We’re here to celebrate the web. And you can tell everyone that you were there for the very first OneWebDay, because this is the first of many.

We’re because the internet has changed our lives. We’re here because the potential of the web to help people solve problems together, play together and work together online is overwhelming. We’re here because we’re really proud of Wikipedia and craigslist and OhmyNews.
Because the web runs on machines, people forget that it’s fundamentally a social, human place. OneWebDay is about remembering that, and not taking the web for granted. The web is a wonderful resource that we need to respect, defend, and celebrate.
And we’re here to have fun and be inspired, and take a look at what other people around the world are doing to celebrate OneWebDay.

Amen to that. I really couldn’t live without the web – because of it’s diversity and way of bridging long gaps, I have more friedns who I’ve never actually met than I have. I laugh, I cry, I create, I destroy, I philosophise, I argue, I give knowledge freely, I receive it – and all of these because of one man’s idea that now spans millions of servers, thousands of ISPs, and billions of domains.
And of course, the space in my head that every day is filled with the warm feeling that I know people, I can talk to them, enjoy their company, and that I have a place in the world that I am, a place that I can go, and the resources and encouragement to get there.

OneWebDay is a great idea and I will be doing my bit to encourage everyone I know to celebrate.
The internet has had such a big effect on so many people. As Wink says, it’s still in its infancy after 20 years. With Web2.0 becoming more and more prevalent, the future is bright.
Roll on the next 20 years!

Yup, Happy OneWebDay!
I doubt that anybody who reads this would be here if they didn’t think that the web could bring people together so, as an experiment, why not try behaving in the ‘real world’ today the way you do online? Talk to somebody who’s reading a book you’re interested in on the tube, or something… The web might have changed you more than you realize!

Happy OneWebDay from Phoenix, AZ. We were so excited about today we baked a delicious chocolate cake to celebrate. Well, actually my mom baked the cake. There’s video of us singing happy OneWebDay.

Happy OneWebDay indeed- but why can’t we celebrate it on Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s birthday, or the day on which he invented the net, if that can be pinned down? The knighthood was well deserved, and it’s pleasing that, just as Volvo gave the benefits of the seatbelt to all for the good of society, this great Briton has gifted the world with a communications tool the life-enhancing potential of which we’ve only scratched the surface.
The OneWebDay site’s a bit untidy and confusing, but it’s a great idea, even if the first I heard of it was when my brother posted a link to the BBC news website this morning. I’m afraid it may be OneWeb, but BBC ONE TV clearly thinks there are more significant things happening in the world.
Oh yeah? Can there be anything more significant than the web in the last twenty years? If it’s out there, you can find it, without even needing to leave the comfort of your lounge. No nation, no concept, no political ideology, no business idea, no language need be beyond it’s reach. Come into my parlour, said the spyware to the flyer- it’s advertising’s golden goose but oppressive government’s un-tieable noose. Despite the efforts of some, the web without doubt is the greatest contribution to free speech the world has ever seen. And as a frustrated journalist who now reads, posts, blogs, reads, learns, shares, prays, listens, looks, speaks of the world through new eyes since I joined the world wide web, I’d even go so far as to say that we owe Sir Tim more than Marconi!
So, Happy St Tim’s Day- sorry, OneWebDay, and G’day world from Eastbourne, Sussex via London, England.
